Girl biologist escaped from the jaws of a crocodile and explains what exactly saved her life

Marine biologist Melissa Cristina Marquez, along with other researchers and cameramen, filmed a documentary on sharks in the Jardines de la Reina archipelago in the Caribbean. During another night dive, at some point, the girl felt that something painfully squeezed her left calf and pulled herself farther away from the shore. Melissa was sure that her leg fell into the mouth of a crocodile.

She tried her best to keep calm and constantly mentally reminded herself not to move her foot in any way. She could only pray that the wetsuit would hold the blood inside and the animal wouldn’t feel it - there would only be a taste of nasty neoprene. Meanwhile, the girl continued to be dragged into the dark, and she had already begun to imagine the worst layouts in her head and was trying to hook some stone at the bottom. The next instant her trick worked, the reptile released a strange prey, deciding that it was not suitable for food.

A female scientist immediately blew air into the compensator for buoyancy and quickly soared to the surface. As soon as she got out of the water, her wound was immediately examined and treated. On one side of the calf, only two deep punctures were visible, but on the other, the entire jaw of the underwater beast was imprinted.

According to Marquez herself, the crocodile was confused by the lighting fixtures placed by people, because of which, having stumbled on her leg, he instinctively grabbed it, but it did not move and did not show any signs of life, so that the predator doubted the edibility of the find and opened its jaw.
