Pythagore's Greed Bowl - A witty invention against alcohol abuse

Pythagoras was not only an outstanding mathematician and philosopher, but also a very inventive person. It is Pythagoras who is credited with creating a very original vessel called the "cup of greed", or the "cup of justice", which today can be bought in souvenir shops when visiting Greece, the homeland of Pythagoras.

This witty vessel allows you to pour and drink only a certain amount of liquid. As soon as a person exceeds the permissible norm indicated by a line on the inside of the vessel, liquid flows out of it, including the one below the line. And here is the cup of Pythagoras's greed in action.

This bowl is arranged on the basis of a siphon and works in accordance with the law on communicating vessels. The bowl has a special column in the center, inside of which there is a canal. And as soon as the liquid level exceeds the permissible mark, all of it flows out of the vessel through the channel.

Today there is no exact data on why Pythagoras invented this interesting vessel, but, according to one version, such a bowl was intended for his friends - lovers of wine and other spirits who did not know the measure in their addiction. And with the help of such a witty bowl it was possible to avoid excessive consumption of wine and play a trick on a drunken friend.
