Secret bunker in the center of Moscow

A few months ago, this object was completely secret. Even being near the entrance to this grandiose structure, you will never think that under you, at a depth of almost 50 meters, the most important secrets of the USSR have been stored not so long ago. In bunker 703 was a special archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union. I became one of its first visitors.

Entrance to the territory where the Bunker 703 is located. Previously, there was no sign, of course. Bunker 703 was declassified only this summer. Outside is a two-story building that serves as a disguise, it also houses the engine room for an elevator and the ventilation system exit. A little away, but also above the bunker, is a kindergarten, whose employees for many years did not even guess what secrets were kept under them.

To get inside, you need to open ten-ton doors. They are not the only ones on our way.

Down to a depth of almost 17 floors a steep metal staircase leads. There is also an elevator, but you can no longer use it.

The view in depth is mesmerizing.

Inside, everything was dilapidated. When the facility was functioning, it was in perfect order and climate. That was until 2005, when the bunker leaked, the secret documents were taken away. They tried to reconstruct the object, but then abandoned it for 13 years, until they decided to declassify it and use it for excursions.

Bunker 703 was built after the war, in the 50s. In 1961, it was commissioned.

Hopper diagram 703:

Metro builders erected it, from the bunker there is an emergency exit right into the subway tunnels. If everyone is silent, then you can hear how from time to time the roar of passing metro trains comes from behind the walls.

We pass along the corridors. The monumentality with which everything was done is striking. Even if a nuclear bomb exploded above, the storage would survive.

You can view the details endlessly. Their greatest value is that they have been preserved from Soviet times in natural conditions.

And so it was.

In some places, it seems that people left here recently.

The storages themselves are segments of tunnels made using the same technology as the metro of those years. There were metal safes with secret documents. Only selected ministry employees were allowed.

On some details, the year is clearly visible. Here 1949. How many years have passed.

Several safes and suitcases have survived to this day.

The old document under the heading "secret" contains the conversation between the USSR ambassador to Israel and the director general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry on the Syrian issue. Doesn’t resemble anything?

In order for the documents not to spoil, the specified climate parameters were supported: humidity and air temperature. For this purpose, a specially designed air conditioning system worked, providing ideal conditions for the preservation of documents.

In the event of an emergency, there were even air regeneration systems, like in submarines.

One of the rooms is equipped with a museum. While this is a temporary exposure.

Among the exhibits are protective equipment against chemical weapons and radiation, walkie-talkies, first-aid kits.

Here you are literally transported half a century ago.

I have never seen canned drinking water before. Imagine this one was produced.

You can watch training filmstrips on civil defense.

It is great that here most of the equipment has been preserved since those times. Something is still working, they are trying to fix something. It is planned to equip a museum of modern city fortification in a bunker.
