One of the oldest buildings on the planet: Sacsayhuaman Citadel, built by the Incas
Incredible in its power and grandeur, this structure is located on the top of the mountain, and it is specially aligned for this. And it consists of three walls, towering one above the other. Each of them, when viewed from above, is made in the shape of an animal.
This Inca sacred place is both a temple complex and a fortress for protection from enemies. There is also a solar calendar carved in stone, and storage for water and food, and underground shelters.
The most striking impression arises from stones of such a colossal size, so tightly fitted to each other that it seems as if only giants could deal with the construction.
By painting the walls and analyzing objects preserved inside, scientists were able to establish that the complex is at least a thousand years old. Only one question arises: "How?" As the Incas, who did not have iron tools and did not know the mechanization of construction, succeeded in dragging such huge stones to the top of the mountain and fitting them together so skillfully.
Scientists have many versions about this, and not a single one is more or less believable. And the Spaniards believed that the demons built the fortress!
For a long time they thought that in fact Sacsayhuaman was built by an ancient civilization that lived long before the Inca empire. But according to the results of long research, they still approved the first point of view - the temple was built by the Incas around 1200 A.D.
Also underground is a whole system of labyrinths in which you can hide from impending danger.
