The staircase has been standing in one place for 250 years, and no one can remove it or move it

The Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is one of the holiest places on Earth and belongs to six different religions at once. The last nuance makes managing the main shrine extremely difficult. The most obvious example is the ordinary wooden staircase, which stands on the ledge above the entrance to the temple.

Exactly in the same place, it has been located for more than two hundred years, and no one can remove it. And the point here is not at all that it is firmly fixed, too heavy, carries some supporting or other useful functions. Everything is much more interesting: this would require the consent of all faiths, and competing orders are simply not able to come to the same opinion.

The same applies to the repair and even rearrangement and replacement of furniture in the temple - due to numerous disagreements, it is almost impossible to get a single common solution. And without taking into account the opinion of at least one side, a real religious war may break out.

That is why the staircase is in place. It is noteworthy that it is not known for certain who exactly put it there and to which religion belonged. It is possible that the subject of disagreement was simply forgotten to be removed by the workers. No one can answer the question when the staircase appeared, but the engraving of 1728 is considered the oldest mention of it.
