20 years the French built a magnificent castle using the methods of the Middle Ages

If you are fascinated by the Middle Ages, you do not need a time machine to be in that era. Just go to French Burgundy at Guedelon Castle, a unique project of volunteers and researchers who created an authentic 13th-century building using only the technologies and materials that were available at that time.

Michelle Guyot and Marilyn Martin began this project in 1997, and now it is almost complete. At the moment, it has helped to create more than 55 jobs and every year attracts more than 300,000 visitors.

The construction of the castle even has a clear correspondence to the medieval period in relation to our days. According to history, the construction of Gidelon began in 1228. Each past year corresponds to a year of historical time. So, now the team working on the castle is in 1248. "The main rule is that you are allowed to do only what became known from the documents that existed at that time- says guide Sarah Preston. - But no matter how accurate we were in accordance with our actions, the castle lacked a soul. Therefore, we came up with a character - the owner, who would like it and would not want something, welcomed something, and did not approve of something. "

Senor Gilbert is a middle-level feudal lord who was granted the right to build his own castle, because he sided with the crown during the uprising in 1226.

The completion of this incredible project is expected in 1253 (or in 2023 in today's world). In the meantime, let's take a look at what a gorgeous Gidelon looks like now.
