The most unusual tribe of the untouched corner of the earth - the "mud people" of New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is an independent state that occupies the eastern part of New Guinea and the surrounding islands. This is one of the most pristine corners on the planet, in whose impenetrable forests 38 species of unique birds of paradise and about 2 thousand different tribes live. Including a very unusual tribe of mud people living in the Vaghi valley at an altitude of 1677 meters.

It is in the Wahgi Valley that the fifth largest city in the country is located - Mount Hagen, which, among other things, is considered the last settlement on the "border of civilization." Then the dangerous territories of hill tribes already begin, where their own laws and rules apply.

The tribe of mud people is very difficult to confuse with any other, because they look unusually colorful. Take a look, clay bodies cover their bodies, and huge frightening masks are put on their heads.

In addition to differences in attitudes among the tribes, there is also a language barrier. It turns out that in Papua New Guinea people speak about 800 different languages, which is why even the neighboring tribes often do not understand each other's speech.

The relief of the state, and of the whole island of New Guinea, is predominantly mountainous. Some peaks stretch to the sky to a height of 4.5 thousand meters and are always covered with snow, other mountain ranges are chains of volcanoes, which, by the way, are many here - there are 18 operating in the territory of Papua New Guinea.

As you probably already understood, earthquakes in the country are not uncommon, and sometimes shakes with catastrophic force.

The island is rich in dense tropical rainforests, where you can find hundreds of species of trees and more than 20 thousand species of various plants.

The island of New Guinea is the largest tropical island on the planet and maintains a high percentage of global biodiversity: for example, these territories are inhabited by more than 4.5 thousand species of vertebrates.
