How Las Vegas became the way we know it: pictures of the city of 1906-1971
Las Vegas is a city embodying all possible desires, and at the same time a world symbol of unlimited separation, comfort and waste. But do you know that the Las Vegas, which we used to see in films and photographs with shining night lights, exploding fireworks and stunning fountains, the city is very young. The history of the city of sins began only 90 years ago, when in the state of Nevada the gambling industry received a green light at the legislative level.
Soon after, near the city, they began to build the famous Hoover Dam - a building that became crucial for the world’s gambling center. And the post-war period has become a real high point for Las Vegas. One after another, stunning hotels soared up into the sky, where all workers could not only stay for a few nights, but also completely legitimately lower their hard-earned money in casinos carefully furnished at hotels.
But not only parties and luxury attracted Las Vegas. Here one could witness another truly brilliant and unforgettable spectacle in every sense of the word: nuclear mushrooms, now and then appearing over the testing ground where atomic tests took place.
To better imagine the rapid evolution of one of the most legendary cities on the planet, take a look at these shots shot in Las Vegas from 1906 to 1971.
