An artist from Los Angeles turns old stuff into works of art

Los Angeles surrealist artist Alexandra Dillon has found a great way to bring life back to things that people throw in landfills. She collects used brushes and other similar objects and uses them as canvases on which she paints portraits of imaginary people.

"My characters come to me as their heroes to novelists, - says Dillon. - They show me and tell who they are ". An artist never starts a portrait with any particular idea. "I never know who will appear". It allows the "soul" of each individual object to "shape" its face. Therefore, her characters are so diverse and mysterious.

“I work on each subject for several days. In the process, they often change and grow, revealing more fully. When I found the emotions and personality of the character, I understand that I’ve finished.”

The artist says she loves to create these small portraits. "It's like meeting a new friend every day. I paint faces and put character in such a way that it's more fun than just working on canvas.".
