Giant straw animals appeared in Japanese fields after rice harvest

Autumn is the harvest season, and the days of celebration of this event are now taking place around the world. In northern Japan, the Wara Art Festival is in full swing, which presents surprisingly inventive ways to use rice straw left over from the crop.

The festival has been held in Niigata since 2008. Then he started as a creative collaboration between the city tourism department and the local art institute. Institute students worked together to decorate Niigata's fields with giant animal sculptures made from rice straw. Since then they have been doing this every year.
