Solomon Islands - a timeless place

French photographer Fabienne Astre has lived in the Solomon Islands for a year. During this time, he worked hard to create a grandiose collection of photographs, from one glance at which there would be a burning desire to visit this amazing place. Let's see what he did in the end.

Fabienne believes that the Solomon Islands is that magical corner of the Earth where time has stopped. People live here exactly the same as a thousand years ago. They even build the same dwellings as their great-great-grandfathers: from saga palm, bamboo and pandan.

And the locals still make canoes like those of the times of the Spanish King Philip II. The king has long been gone, and canoes, strong and light, still float between the islands.

In the countryside, the moon is used instead of the calendar, and the days of the week mean nothing. Children grow up in the wild, near the sea and the most diverse fauna.

Children have the most carefree childhood here: take a look at how they play with the old car!

Local teens perform acrobatic stunts while diving.

Astra says that the amazing combination of fair hair and dark skin puzzled many scientists. The islanders themselves are sure that this is due to the bright sun and a diet rich in fish. But in fact, the islanders have such an amazing gene, thanks to which they look so beautiful and unusual.

And here is the road leading to the city of Guizot across the coast. It is so safe that only coconuts are afraid of it.

Fresh vegetables, fruits and fish are sold at the local market. Villagers sail in boats from different islands to take a better place. Many visitors from afar spend a week on the market. Everything is very natural and healthy, and they have not heard of fertilizers here.

When you live in Solomon, you have plenty of time! The locals kill him by playing cards for money.

In general, the Solomon Islands includes 992 islands, and each of them is unique and beautiful in its own way. For example, about 80 rivers flow on the island of Kolombangara, and it never thirsts, even in the most severe drought. Its name translates as "King of the rivers."

Olasana Island has white sand and snorkeling reefs, but is deserted. It offers views of Kennedy Island.

Kennedy Island is named after Lieutenant John F. Kennedy because it was washed ashore after his ship was hit by a Japanese destroyer.

But not an island, but a stratovolcano. It is perfectly round in shape, and the path to its top takes two days.

There are several Shortland Islands, and each of them has truly stunning sunsets.

Probably, it was about the Solomon Islands that they composed a children's song that everyone knows: "Chung-Chang, there is no better place!"
