Five star beaches of Mauritius

The beaches of the African island of Mauritius are considered one of the most beautiful on Earth, but how to choose the best of the best ?! The purpose of our trip to Mauritius was an attempt to find a place with the most luxurious beaches on the island.

When studying hotel offers, the first thing you pay attention to is the chain Beachcomber Hotels - here they have eight hotels, all of the highest class and have an excellent location. Beachcomber is in the Seychelles, in Morocco, in France, and everywhere they say only good things about them. All hotels in this hotel chain have great beaches, so we started with them.

Beaches at Shandrani

Five-star hotel Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa located in the pristine southern part of Mauritius on a private peninsula, in the middle of the Blue Bay Marine Park. This paradise on one side is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, and on the other - an endless azure ocean with rich flora and fauna.

In Shandrani is not one, but as many as three unusually beautiful beaches overlooking different parts of the world. They are not connected with each other, so everyone has their own unique atmosphere. One may be calm and the other a gentle breeze. Two beaches are in calm lagoons, and one overlooks the ocean and is famous for its soft waves. The sand here is very shallow and delicate, all beaches are well equipped, service is at an altitude. It is for the sake of these three beaches that you should settle in Shandrani Beachcomber - this is not to be found anywhere else.

To get to the hotel, you do not need to spend a lot of time - Sir Sivusagur Ramgoolam International Airport is literally a five-minute drive away.

Nearby Attractions

Near the hotel there are many attractions. A short boat trip will take you to the tiny island of Ile Des Deux Cocos. Here is a pretty villa of the former governor of Mauritius, as well as stretching white beaches that seem wild, and therefore especially attractive.

If you swim along the coast further, you can see the coral island-reserve Il-oz-Egret (Ile Aux Aigrettes, "Island of White Herons"). Its area is only 26 hectares, but there are rare, endangered plants and animals of Mauritius. Egret is called the natural open-air museum, and anyone interested in nature should be interested in visiting such a unique place.

City lovers recommend going to the small town of Maeburg, which was once the capital of Mauritius. It’s just ten minutes by car from the hotel. The city was founded at the beginning of the XIX century and allows you to see how the Mauritians used to live. There is also a castle, inside which the Museum of National History is located. The exhibition presents various objects from sunken ships, ancient maps and engravings.

The staff will be happy to help rent a car. Thus, you can explore the island and see much more natural, historical and architectural attractions of Mauritius, for example, La Vanilla park, where crocodiles and turtles are found (although there are five turtles in the Blue Bay Nature Reserve, and you don’t need to travel far ), the sacred Gran Bassin lake, the village of Chamarel with colorful sands and waterfalls, the resort village of Tru-d'O-Duc, and much more. Mauritius really has something to see.

Restaurants

We were pleasantly surprised that there are four restaurants and two bars in the Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa, each with its own design and unique atmosphere. The food at Shandrani is haute cuisine, gastronomic diversity and always excellent quality.

For breakfast we preferred the buffet in the restaurant by the pool and beaches - Le Sirius or Le Grand Port terrace.

Most often had dinner in a green garden overlooking the beach and the ocean at Le Teak Elephant Thai Restaurant. He has a small hall - for 70 people, but the atmosphere is very calm and romantic. By the way, children under 12 years old are not allowed here.

Sometimes I wanted Italian cuisine: risotto, pasta, fresh salads, then we visited the Ponte Vecchio, working on the à la carte menu and located next to the entertainment area. It was from here that it was most pleasant to listen to concerts or watch the performances of local artists.

Sports and Entertainment

A significant advantage of this hotel is the huge landscaped area and a wide variety of land and water activities. Shandrani is an ideal place for a dynamic holiday. Most of the entertainment is already included in the price, so surcharges may be needed unless for private lessons.

The exclusive eco-tourism program "Beachcomber Sport and Nature (BSN)" allows you to appreciate all the delights of trekking, eco-tourism and outdoor sports. Here you can go kayaking, canoeing, go on excursions in boats and mountain bicycles accompanied by a guide (in the vicinity reed fields and picturesque cliffs).

During the excursions you will learn about Mauritian plants and trees, see how nuts grow, you can walk along an unusual natural stone bridge, visit places popular among local fishermen, get acquainted with the traditions and customs of the islanders. In a word, we highly recommend it.

Tennis enthusiasts can do it on one of the hotel’s six floodlit tennis courts, and golfers will certainly appreciate the 9-hole pitch & putt. Playing golf surrounded by such nature is a real pleasure. You can also play table tennis or pétanque at Shandrani. By the way, it was precisely these whole days that the older Europeans did (yes, we really liked to watch them).

In the clear waters of the unique Blue Bay Nature Reserve you can go snorkeling, diving, sailing, go water skiing, a catamaran, take a fascinating boat trip on the boat and much, much more. The underwater kingdom is amazing, so do not miss this opportunity.

Shandrani Sports Center regularly holds individual and group cardio workouts, step and aerobics classes. In the pool you can always swim at an accelerated pace or do water aerobics. This tones up no less, but at the same time the water refreshes and relieves any fatigue.

Speaking of fatigue. In the 23-room SPA salon, they provide hydrotherapy and massage services (Thai, Ayurveda, Shiatsu, etc.). After a relaxing massage, you feel refreshed and dream of getting to bed as soon as possible and soaking up a little more in this aroma of exotic essential oil. By the way, I recommend visiting the hammam or sauna (free of charge) immediately upon arrival to renew your skin and prepare it for a magnificent bronze tan.

Shandrani is a wonderful five-star hotel, but no matter what we do, no matter how we have fun, sooner or later we will return to its magnificent beaches. On soft and warm snow-white sand, surrounded by tropical greenery, you could spend an entire day unnoticed. Each time, seeing the first purple clouds in the sky, reflected in the ocean, we admitted to ourselves that this place makes us truly happy. For these beaches you can give all the money of the world!
