17 interesting photos from the first beer festival in North Korea

In August, the first beer festival in the country's history was held in the capital of North Korea, Pyongyang. For almost 20 days, his guests could taste various varieties of dark and light beer with roasted chicken, bread or nuts.

The purpose of the holiday was to promote the local Tedongan beer, which got its name in honor of the famous North Korean landmark - the river of the same name.

The opening ceremony of the festival was held on August 12 at 7 pm. About 500 people came to enjoy Lager beer "Tedongan" and listen to live music.

The head of the DPRK General Bureau of Public Services, Cho Yong Nam, noted the special significance of the event. According to him, this beer festival, held on the banks of the beautiful Tedong River, is a demonstration of not only the superiority, but also the vitality of the people-centered socialist system.

An article in the American New York Times published in 2008 described the richness of the Tedongan beer as a rich and slightly bitter aftertaste.

At the moment, North Korean beer can be tasted either in the country itself or in China, where it is brought, but in a very limited quantity.

Speaking about the history of beer production in the DPRK, it is worth noting that it is still very young and began in the not so distant 2002. It was then that the old British brewery was dismantled, subsequently transported to Pyongyang.
