A milder climate and infrastructure problems: what can Siberia expect from warming

Currently, residents of Siberia cannot say that they notice dramatic changes in the weather that would indicate the onset of global warming. Only scientists from different areas record the manifestation of some of the consequences of this process: the melting of mountain glaciers, the retreat of the permafrost distribution to the north, or the appearance of southern insect species on agricultural fields. Nevertheless, climatologists promise that in 60 years the climate in Siberia will become much warmer. Of course, tangerines here will not be able to survive, but every Siberian will notice that the climate in the vast expanses from the Urals to the Far East has become milder.

Specialists from the Forest Institute of the SB RAS (Krasnoyarsk), together with their foreign colleagues, made a forecast of the climatic changes that will occur in the vastness of Siberia in the coming decades. According to them, by 2080, the average annual winter temperatures will increase by 9ºС, and in summer it will become hotter by an average of 5.7ºС. In addition, a general increase in precipitation is expected - they will increase by 140 millimeters per year. Such a scenario will become possible with the current level of greenhouse gas emissions, but even if they can be reduced, which is unlikely, the trend of warming in the vast expanses of Siberia will continue.

Unfortunately, infrastructure problems will be the price of climate improvement in the vast expanses of Siberia, and their solution must be taken care of today.
