Divine canyons, impregnable cliffs and Indians: what was the Wild West

Wild West Americans romanticized in cult films of the last century. Westerns were popular not only in the United States, but also abroad. About how honest Americans fought with the Indians, more than one film was shot. Of course, in reality everything happened a little differently: whites conquered territories, driving the Indians from fertile lands. The indigenous population moved more and more towards the Pacific Ocean, to the west. So, in fact, the Wild West covered modern Texas, Colorado, Kansas and other states in the western United States. The Indians resisted as best they could, conflicts and robbery were commonplace in these places, which often turned into places of military operations. All this lasted for a century: from the time of the expedition to the Pacific Ocean by William Clark and Meriweather Lewis until the Mexican Revolution in 1910-1917. Today, about how the wild and rampant West was, only memories and rare photographs remain. One of these series belongs to Timothy O'Sullivan, who photographed the long-gone world of the 60-70s of the XIX century. On his frames are Indians, and white, and the incredible nature of the Old West.

O'Sullivan's collection of photographs is one of the most popular in US history.
