Access denied for 100 years: the "red zone" in France, about which almost no one knows

France is an exquisite center of tourist attraction, a dream of people from all over the world with fabulous provinces, castles of the Loire, the Cote d'Azur, the Louvre and, of course, the Eiffel Tower. However, as in any other country, there are much less attractive places here, whose landscapes do not contribute to tourist attractiveness, and therefore almost no one knows about them. Today we will talk about one of these - the village of Duomon, which was once a beautiful corner of Provence, but is now declared the "red zone".

Warning signs say "No entry, life threatening" is not in vain, the territory has been closed to visitors for more than a hundred years.

The fact is that this area is one of the main places of the battle of Verdun 1916, which belongs to the most brutal and bloody battles of the First World War. These places were completely devastated and destroyed by the war, and their soil remains poisoned to this day. According to research, the arsenic level in it is 300 times higher than normal.

The inscription on the tablet: "Duomon - a destroyed village."

There was a church here.

Swimming in water is prohibited.

Despite the fact that in 1946 a large-scale operation to destroy weapons and unexploded bombs took place in Duomon, this was not enough. The soil is still saturated with lead, mercury and zinc.

The authorities predict that even if the area is completely cleaned up, the territory will become habitable only after 300-700 years.
