Chilling wave: how does an icy tsunami arise

Icy tsunami is one of the rarest and most terrible natural phenomena encountered by the inhabitants of the Earth. This natural disaster can be observed in temperate and arctic latitudes, and the inhabitants of coastal regions whose houses are located in close proximity to the coastline suffer from it. We will tell about how the ice tsunami is formed in our review.

According to eyewitnesses of the ice tsunami, this phenomenon is always accompanied by a rattle and roar. If the ice tsunami meets residential buildings on its way, then the glass will crack first, and with further advance the buildings themselves will often be destroyed. This happened in May 2013 in Manitoba, one of the central provinces of Canada, when mountains of ice from Lake Dauphin carried ashore. A similar phenomenon was observed in the US state of Minnesota, when a gale, reaching 60 km / h, brought ice hummocks from the surface of Lake Mille Lax to the shore. The most affected city in Minnesota is Ocre Beach, where several houses were destroyed.

Fortunately, ice tsunamis that can cause significant damage are extremely rare. In most cases, ice drifts do not move far from the coastline, but form bizarre paintings that cause horror and admiration at the same time.
